In addition, each board member actively participates in at least one committee.

CAFKA is seeking Practicing Artists to join our Board of Directors. Artists play a critical role in leading the artist-run culture of the organization.

ABOUT CAFKA

CAFKA – Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area is a non-profit, artist-run organization that presents a free biennial exhibition of contemporary art in the public spaces of the City of Kitchener and across the Region of Waterloo. CAFKA is a producer, advocate and educator for contemporary public, interactive and interventionist art practices. CAFKA commissions contemporary artists from Ontario, across Canada and abroad, to develop new temporary art projects that can respond to the specific features of the local urban landscape and culture. The CAFKA biennial includes approximately 20 installations, performances, projections and interventions involving collaborations with concurrent music and cultural festivals and Regional art institutions. Between biennial exhibitions, CAFKA presents selected public projects, and promotes art education through its public tours and workshops, videos, public lectures and other ancillary programs and events.

A unique curatorial framework is established for each biennial exhibition, and artist projects are programmed through a combination of peer-juried submissions and curatorial invitations. CAFKA works to create meaningful cultural experiences, build community connections, and engage public discourse around issues of social justice, social responsibility, and public and private space, bringing ground-breaking artists to Kitchener-Waterloo to contribute to these discussions.

CAFKA has developed an action plan outlining its commitment to BIPOC artists, community members, and volunteers, as well as transparency, equity, and inclusion at all levels of the organization. This plan acknowledges that BIPOC communities overlap with the LGBTQIA2S+ and disability communities, to whom CAFKA is also accountable.
