Musagetes and CAFKA are pleased to announce that Grégory Lasserre, one half of the internationally renowned media project Scenocosme, will be speaking as part of the Big Ideas in Art and Culture Lecture Series. This lecture will take place in the CIGI Auditorium in Waterloo on Sunday, October 18, at 2 PM. The location is wheelchair accessible and admission is free.
Grégory Lasserre & Anaïs met den Ancxt are two artists who work together under the name Scenocosme. They live in the Rhône-Alpes region in France and have been working together since 2003. As visual artists their work takes different forms: interactive installations, visual art, digital art, sound art performance etc. They see their practice as a process of “distilling” digital technology to draw out its poetic and dream-like potential.
Much of Scenocosme’s artwork is interactive – a product of physical and social interaction. Scenocosme creates techno-organic hybrids, connecting digital systems with living or natural elements (plants, people, water, wood, stone). Their interactive works identify invisible relationships between people and the environment, rendering perceptible the small energy variations in physical bodies that are caused by human interaction. In so doing, Scenocosme creates extraordinary shared sensory experiences.
Scenocosme has an extensive exhibition history. They have exhibited at ZKM / Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe, Germany); Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax Canada); Daejeon Museum of Art (Daejeon, South Korea), Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh (Raleigh, USA); Bòlit/Centre d'Art Contemporani (Girona, Catalonia); and in many biennials and international festivals: Art Center Nabi/INDAF (Seoul, South Korea); Experimenta (Melbourne, Australia), BIACS3 International Biennial of Contemporary Art (Seville, Spain); NAMOC/National Art Museum of China/TRANSLIFE/ Triennial of Media Art (Beijing, China); Futuresonic (Manchester, UK), WRO Biennial (Wrocław, Poland), and FILE - Electronic Language International Festival (São Paulo, Brazil).
Scenocosme has participated in the ISEA/International Symposium on Electronic Art (Belfast 2009, Istanbul 2011, Albuquerque 2012, Sydney 2013); and in the World Expo (Shanghai, China); Nuit Blanche events in Toronto, Halifax, Singapore, Brussels, Brighton, Amiens, Segovia and in Festival of Lights (Lyon, France), as well as at several art centers: MONA (Berriedale, Tasmania), MUDAC, Claude Verdan Foundation (Lausanne, Switzerland), Le musée Ianchelevici (La Louvière, Belgium), Kibla Multimedia Centre (Maribor, Slovenia), Banff Centre (Banff, Canada), the Villa Romana (Florence, Italy), Utsikten Kunstsenter, (Kvinesdal, Norway), Watermans Arts Centre (Middlesex, UK), and La Gaîté Lyrique (Paris, France).
