The Board of Directors of CAFKA - Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area is seeking applications by individuals to serve as candidates for the CAFKA Board of Directors.

BACKGROUND

CAFKA – Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area is a non-profit, artist-run organization that presents a free biennial exhibition of contemporary art in the public spaces of the City of Kitchener and across the Region of Waterloo. Between exhibitions and throughout the year CAFKA promotes art education through its public tours and workshops, videos, public lectures and other ancillary programs and events.

CAFKA seeks a wide spectrum of committed and talented people from diverse disciplines. The size of the Board of Directors for 2018 is set at 14 members:

  • 7 members from the community who are recognized professional artists or arts professionals.
  • 7 members from the community at large.

Ideally, directors representing the community or the creative sector shall possess various skills beneficial to the Board such as legal, accounting, HR, governance and finance.

BOARD MEMBER EXPECTATIONS

As a Board Member you have agreed to take on a commitment to help guide CAFKA over the term of your appointment. The CAFKA Board is a both a governing board and a working board. We all recognize that board members are busy and that this is a volunteer job,  however the expectation that a board member attends meetings having reviewed any required documentation ready to discuss and vote where necessary is critical in ensuring the board is effective and that decisions can be made in a timely manner and not take up more time than is necessary.

Board members are expected to promote CAFKA whenever possible, within the context of their everyday business and community involvement and to report to the board and there is an expectation that board members, wherever possible, will submit the names of individuals and corporations regarding fundraising possibilities.
