Since its beginnings in 2001, CAFKA has had three defining aspects: It is about contemporary art, it is about the city of Kitchener and the Region of Waterloo, and it is a forum – a place where we can exchange ideas, share reflections and consider the project we are engaged in. Come and hear artists, curators, and critics talk about the artists, the art work, and the CAFKA.16 vision.

This year CAFKA has teamed up with the Critical Media Lab, University of Waterloo, the Department of Fine Arts, University of Waterloo and the University of Waterloo Art Gallery to present CAFKA.16: Symposium at the Critical Media Lab, 44 Gaukel Street, Kitchener. The symposium will feature presentations by Mona El-Khafif, co-director of University of Waterloo School of Architecture DATAlab and principle of SCALESHIFT; Gabby Moser, writer, independent curator and acting chair of Visual & Critical Studies, OCAD University and Iga Janik. Iga Janik is the curator of temporary exhibitions at Idea Exchange Art and Design in Cambridge. After lunch Lori Blondeau & Adrian Stimson will perform Belle & Boy’s Savage Buffalo Happy Hour
